JConverter is now Joomla 2.5 and WordPress 3.x compatible
We released the 1.0 beta version of JConverter today which is not only compatible with latest Joomla 2.5 release but also includes some ultra cool new features for converting a wordpress blog into a Joomla website.
Due to prior commitments, we couldn’t spend much time on upgrading older version of JConverter however the kind of positive support and feedback we have received for JConverter is just overwhelming and we decided to come up with a much needed upgrade of JConverter.
Here are some of the new features we have added in latest beta version.
- JConverter now supports importing comments from wordpress into the most popular free comments extension JComments.
- JConverter supports nested category structure of Joomla 2.5 and wordpress. It imports categories in the same nested structure in Joomla as they exist in WordPress.
- Older version of JConverter couldn’t associate imported posts with categories and comments. Latest version maintains the category-post and comments-post relationship after import.
- Since wordpress and Joomla use different password encryption systems, it’s not possible to decrypt and set the same password of imported wordpress user in Joomla. This version allows setting a default password for all imported users. Admin can notify users about their new password using Joomla’s mass email system or by some other means.
Apart from new features many bugs have also been fixed which were reported in older version of JConverter. The current version would surely make your life easy if you are planning to convert a wordpress site into Joomla.

Gwen, it’s difficult to comment on what could be wrong by just looking at the screenshot. In last one week, more than 100 users have downloaded JConverter and we haven’t received any such issue so far.
Current version is a beta version and there would be issues so we are relying on help from our users to find them so we can fix the issues. I want to migrate a wordpress site to joomla 2.5. I was given a zip file with the data. I do not have access to the host website. Will your extension open an export file made in wordpress? I don’t want to have to host it on another wordpress site. I really want to migrate the content. I have articles, comments, and a large inactive forum. Please advise me.
